Neil Nedley, MD, is founder and medical director of the community-based and residential Nedley Depression and Anxiety Recovery Programs™ and Optimize Your Brain™. Dr. Nedley is an award-winning practicing physician who also serves as president of Weimar University, a higher education college that houses the NEWSTART program. He has presented and published numerous scientific studies in the medical/scientific literature and is well known as an author, public speaker, and teacher throughout the world.
A specialist in internal medicine with an emphasis in gastroenterology, mental health, and the difficult-to-diagnose patient, Dr. Nedley has spent his career studying the connection between physical health and mental and emotional well-being. His programs take a whole-person approach — examining nutrition, sleep, exercise, cognitive habits, underlying medical factors, and frontal lobe function — rather than treating symptoms in isolation. He is the author of Proof Positive, Depression: The Way Out, The Lost Art of Thinking, and Optimize Your Brain, and hosts an annual Emotional Intelligence Summit that draws speakers and participants from around the world.
Dr. Nedley's research and writing form the scientific foundation of the GoEQ™ curriculum. When the Pacific Judicial Council sought an emotional intelligence program for students across the Pacific islands, they approached Dr. Nedley to translate this body of work into lessons a classroom could actually use. That project became Optimize Your Brain™ and, later, GoEQ™. He continues to serve as medical advisor to the curriculum team, ensuring the science behind every lesson is sound and clearly communicated for young learners.
Dr. Nedley enjoys hiking in nature with his family, piloting his own aircraft, snow skiing, and listening to sacred and classical music.
