Kids Talk: Feelings
Children describe feelings in their own words
Ask a class of six-year-olds what a feeling is and you will get better answers than most adults manage. That is the whole premise of this one-minute film.
Children speak directly to camera about happiness, sadness, anger and worry. There is no narration and no lesson framing, which is exactly why it works: students hear the vocabulary from peers rather than from an adult telling them how they ought to feel.
Watch
Play it once through without stopping or commenting.
Name
Ask which feeling each student recognised in themselves.
Practise
Use the same words the children in the film used.
It costs one minute of class time and does the hardest part of an emotions lesson for you: making it ordinary to talk about feelings out loud.
Morning meetings, the opening minute of a Kids EQ lesson, and counseling groups with younger students.
