Developing Emotional Intelligence
A shared starting definition in three and a half minutes
Most conversations about emotional intelligence stall because nobody has agreed what the term covers. This short video fixes that quickly.
It breaks emotional intelligence into its recognised components, self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skill, and names a concrete habit that develops each one. No jargon and no long preamble.
Define
Establish the five components before debating any of them.
Locate
Ask which component your team is weakest in.
Practise
Choose the one habit attached to that component.
It is short enough to open a staff meeting with and clear enough that everyone leaves working from the same definition, which is usually the missing step.
Staff in-service openers, high school advisory, and a primer before reading anything longer on emotional intelligence.
